History

In 1979 Nikos Pantazis was transferred with his wife, Eleni Pandi, as Physical Education professors at the 3rd High School of Halandri in the area of Polydrosos Halandriou. Until then Halandri had not developed any kind of sporting activity. The first experience of the two people in the sport was traumatic because the school tournaments that took part in the school's volleyball team were blocked by 2-0 sets from the College and Moraitis, the two privates who monopolized school sport.
The following year he found them training outside the school every Saturday and Sunday. Mr. Pantazis coached the boys and Mrs. Gandhi the girls

In the 1980s, the boys' team reached the semifinals of Eastern Attica and the girls conquered the Eastern Attica Basketball Championship. For the first time in school sports, a public school won a school championship against the giants of the private ones located in the northern suburbs. They foolishly thought that this team had to enter the championships and this could only be done by joining them in a team. Unfortunately Halandri at the time had only three football teams. They decided to create a club with the vision of establishing and acting as a representative of Halandri and in 1981 the Halandri Gymnastics Club was born with track and field divisions, men's and women's basketball, men's volleyball volleyball and shooting division. The first board of directors was elected on March 14, 1983 and its composition was as follows:

President: Dimitris Koukounas
General Secretary: Nikos Pantazis
Vice-President: Evangelos Tsikas
Members: Yannis Tsotsoros
         Eleni Karidi
         Marina Zerva
         Eleni Pandi
         Alekos Kolokotronis
         Beza Penelope

Shortly afterwards coaches are recruited and the journey gets flesh and bone. Mr. Giorgos Kazakos takes over the marshalling of Asros, while Mrs Arnokourou Maria is the women's volleyball team. Basketball is carried out by Mr. Konstantinos Zagas and the track by Mr. Periklis Karagounis. Sports in Halandri starts organized in all other sports (except football).

In 1984, the Halandri Gymnastics Club reaches the second division in the men's and women's basketball division and also in the men's and women's volleyball section, and three of his athletes enter the transcript of larger teams of the first category. Eventually the athlete Vicky Varelas gets a transfer to Panathinaikos and the athletes Ekarhopoulou and Georgiadou in Vrilissia. The Weightlifting with coach Panagiotis Tzimos is in the First National Division and Panagiotis Lafazos, the biggest star.

In 1987, Mr. Koukouna was appointed president of Panagiotis Yiobazolias and the Gymnastics Club was launched in all sports. A bathing section, badminton, triathlon, pole are being established, and it is immediately decided to publish a newspaper. The basketball and volleyball divisions of men and women compete in the A-category ESKA-ESPAA which is also the largest at the local level. The athletes and distinguished athletes Alexandrakis, Sapoutzis, Kakambakos, Parissi, Abatzis, Spinos, Katsopodis, Floros, Papakostopoulos, Paximadis become the apples of the dispute and all their big teams claim.

However, where the Halandri Gymnastics Club is really crowded, it is the athlete and occupies the 2nd place in Eastern Attica after Filothei, which has its own tartan athletics field, training in soil. At the same time it occupies the 23rd position on the Pan-Hellenic level. With coaches Chrysanthos Karousos, Stavros Zougaridis, Periklis Karagounis, Yannis Koutouzis and Panagiotis Karachalio are distinguished athletes Panhellenicians such as Mina Sylei and Popi Syrou, Thomaidos at 800-1500 meters - Stamatis Leni, Chronis and Doffen in triples - Douris, Fournaris and Kouratoras in the casts - Kalloudis, Efthimiou, Anagnostou, Boumi, Athanassiou and Netkin at speeds - Markatos and Argyrakis in the jumps.

In 1991 the Halandri Gymnastics Club established a touring and dance section and organized concerts, also covering the cultural sector.
Successes and the ambitions of actors also bring rivalries. So after the foundation of a basketball team of AO Halandri by a former member, we have a new breakthrough that creates the Standard in Apostolopoulou.
At the same time, however, there is also a general shift in the sport that leads to the creation of Prometheus, the sports departments of Fo Toufas and A. Polydrosos, today's Trifollian. In order to avoid disruptive movements, the Halandri Gymnastics Club takes the decision in 1996 to give autonomy to its departments that are now in parent group management with positive and negative results. The negatives lead to the abolition of basketball facilities and departure from the championships, as well as the union of the women's basketball team with Amaryllis. Positive is the good progress of the men's basketball and athletics team.

Today, the Halandri Gymnastics Club consists of three divisions, which are: men's basketball, women's volleyball, track and field. The infrastructure of these three departments is doing a good job, trying to teach our little friends, apart from the secrets of sports, very basic principles that will be lifetime, such as ethos, athletic culture, friendship, love for him fellow-athlete, critical thinking, noble emulation, etc.
The Men's Basketball Team, with an impressive track record, has been successful in today's C National Championship, the largest women's squad, the women's volleyball team in the 2 nd National Championship, and claims the A2 rally and the athlete to participate in the Panhellenic Games and occupying 98th position from the 336 he had.

From the new age, the Halandri Gymnastics Club was decided to become one again and so ends the period of autonomy of the departments. New faces in administration, new ideas and technology at the forefront.

The web site of the Halandri Gymnastics Club was prepared exclusively by Mr. Dimas Spyros tireless and valuable partner and we believe that with his care and knowledge will be better everyday.
It is a necessary means of promoting and updating the activities of the largest club in the city of Halandri and we feel obliged to thank Spyros who opens the new web pages for the Halandri Gymnastics Club.
